Shenango Township Police Department’s K9 Memorial Service

There will be a memorial service held on Wednesday for Drago, the Shenango Township police dog.

A public memorial service will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Shenango High School Auditorium and will include speakers as well as a slideshow tribute.  Refreshments will follow in the cafeteria.

The service will be preceded by a ceremonial last ride that leaves from the high school parking lot at 5:50 p.m.  (For emergency vehicles only)

The ride will travel south on Ellwood Road to Route 388 north. From there, it will turn west onto Route 422 and then left onto Cascade Street.  The route will then turn left onto Ellwood Road, returning to the school at approximately 6:10 p.m.

At the school, K9 handlers will line up with their partners at the entrance. There will be a final radio call for service to Drago.

Although the public is invited to the service, Shenango Township police are asking residents not to take their pets. They recommend people with pets congregate in the parking lot of Cascade Park, at the corner of Cascade Street and Ellwood Road, where the procession will pass.

Drago had been a canine officer with the department for about two years.  He passed on Sept. 12 following surgery for a medical condition.
